The computer keyboard is one of the most overlooked items in an office space. A higher quality keyboard can lead to a higher quality work experience.

Switches

Switches come in 2 variations - linear and tactile. Linear switches feel completely smooth throughout the entire keystroke, while tactile switches have a bump in the middle of the stroke to indicate to the user when the switch has been actuated.

These combinations of switches and plates can be tested and selected by the user prior to purchasing the final keyboard. This results in a specialized typing experience for each user’s preference.

Testing Kit

The typing tester kit includes switches and plates and is sent out to prospective customers to allow an exploration of their keyboard preferences. The kit has been built with all switch and plate variations so a user can experience the variations in typing such as sound and tactical preferences.

Current switch testers on the market overwhelm a customer with options and only allow the test of one button. NeoKey allows a user to try typing with all ten fingers.

The final keyboard can be sent in parts with an instruction manual, to allow for greater user exploration and engagement or as a ready-to-use, fully assembled machine.

Plates

The plate secures switches to the case frame. Plates typically come in 3 different materials - brass, aluminum, and polycarbonate. Each material alters the user’s typing experience, from stiff to flexible.

Mounting

A keyboard’s mounting style is how the plate and printed circuit board (PCB) are secured in the keyboard case. There are several ways to do so, with varying levels of flexibility, that alter the sound and feel of the keyboard. Mounting styles are not interchangeable they depend on the specific form.

The Top Mount is a common yet luxurious mounting style. It provides the user with an even feel along each row of keys. For this reason, it has been selected for the NeoKey board. In addition, rubber O-rings are placed around the bolt securing the plate to the top frame, resulting in a beautifully even typing experience and sound profile.
